Lesson 14 - In Closing
8. There are Christians today who, for various reasons, still have their children circumcised. Does v. 15 have anything to say for or against this practice?
If, like the Galatians, Christians today are circumcising their children trying to earn favor with God, appease Him by obeying the Law, or guarantee their child’s salvation by following Old Testament practices for Israel, they are just as misguided.
Admittedly, there may be various reasons a person may want to circumcise their children today. However, there’s no reason to believe Paul would have been making an argument for or against those. In his context, circumcision only existed for the purposes prescribed by the Old Testament. His point seems to be that circumcision holds no power. Don’t depend on it. Don’t rely on it. Instead, turn to Christ and be born again as a new creation (John 3:3).
